Landmark Newcastle residential development receives planning approval

Planning permission has been granted for a landmark building in Newcastle.

The scheme – which will be developed by Stonegate Developments – was designed by architects FaulknerBrowns.

The new building will provide 92 one-bedroom and 66 two-bedroom apartments exclusively for the private rented sector.

The 26-storey construction will be developed on a brownfield site that has been vacant for 12 years and situated on Rutherford Street in Newcastle’s city centre.

The building has been designed to enhance the views of the listed Printworks building on St James’ Boulevard and improve the connectivity between the city centre and the Science Central site.

Improvements have also been proposed for the surrounding public spaces.

Paul Rigby, partner at FaulknerBrowns, said: “We are extraordinarily proud of what we have presented to the planning committee and the decision to approve our proposals.

“We have worked extremely hard to design a building of the highest quality and we believe this development will create a positive landmark for the city, representative of its ambitious and forward-thinking outlook.”

Stonegate Developments Limited is a company set up by Citygrove Securities PLC to develop this new building.
